Sender ID Types

  • Alphanumeric

Your brand name as the sender

    Replaced in transit

    • Your brand name as the sender, with no reply path.
    • Networks overwrite the sender name in transit; recipients see a number instead.
  • Long code

    Replaced in transit

    • Needed for two-way messaging and replies.
  • Short code

    Five-digit sender

    Replaced in transit

Compliance in Malaysia

  • Opt-in: Opt-in is required and any form of opt-in is acceptable for non-premium SMS; a subscriber who previously blocked a sender must reply UNBLOCK to unblock the sender.
  • Opt-out: Opt-out is required, and best practice is to let subscribers reply STOP to unsubscribe and INFO to get help, with both keywords included in the message body.
  • Sending times: Marketing programs may send Monday to Sunday from 8am to 8pm.
  • Restricted content: Adult content · Political content · Gambling · Religious content · URL links · Telephone numbers
  • Message content must mention the brand name because sender IDs are replaced by short codes, and unbranded messages may incur a penalty of MYR 2.50 or higher per SMS from the network operators.
  • It is mandatory to have 'RM0' at the beginning of the message content; if RM0 is missing it may be inserted automatically, but if the content is longer than 153 characters RM0 will not be added and the message may be rejected by the network operators.
  • The keyword HELP has issues with some operators, so it is strongly recommended to use INFO instead.

These rules are what we generally check against, however they may not be up-to-date. We'll always keep you informed of what is needed for each destination throughout any registration process.
