Compliance in Tanzania

  • Opt-in: Opt-in is required and any form of opt-in is accepted by the operators, such as web, call center or MO, but the content provider must be able to demonstrate proof of opt-in in the event of an operator audit or a user complaint.
  • Opt-out: Opt-out is required for marketing messages, any form is accepted by the operators such as web, call center or MO, and the content provider must be able to demonstrate proof in the event of an operator audit or a user complaint.
  • Sending times: Marketing messages may only be sent 9am to 9pm on business days.
  • Restricted content: Adult content · Political content · Betting (gambling is allowed)
  • Registration: For sender IDs related to banks or financial institutions the operator Airtel requires a bank authorization letter.
  • The sender ID or brand name must match the message content, for example a sender of Tanzania Bank should send content such as Your Tanzania Bank transaction code is XXXX.
